IRAL Shortlisted in New London Architecture Awards 2013

Ian Ritchie Architects Ltd (IRAL) have been shortlisted in three categories in this year’s New London Architecture (NLA) Awards. The awards honour the best in architecture, planning and development in the capital for schemes both built and unbuilt. IRAL’s projects have been selected in the Conservation & Retrofit category for the transformation of the Royal Academy of Music theatre,   the Public Buildings category for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s new London home at Temple,   and the Masterplans and Mixed Use category for the Royal Docks Development Strategy. IRAL Royal Docks Strategy Embraced by London Mayors

Last year IRAL completed a study on the water spaces of the Royal Docks, this study has now become the start of a floating regeneration drive for London. Look on the IRAL website and The Architects Journal website for more information, extract below: The GLA Mayor, Boris Johnson presented the Royal Docks floating village concept at MIPIM. The concept, by Ian Ritchie Architects was developed for the LDA and RoDMA as a strategic development proposal for the Royal Docks. Gardens by the Bay wins WAF Building of the Year 2012

The project I worked on for nearly two years at WilkinsonEyre Architects has won this years WAF Building of the Year award. Gardens By the Bay  Two of the largest climate-controlled conservatories in the world have been constructed as the architectural centrepiece of Singapore’s new 54-hectare Bay South Garden, the first completed part of the spectacular Gardens by the Bay project. Designed by the acclaimed architectural practice Wilkinson Eyre Architects, the glass and steel cooled conservatories bring the climates and plant life of Mediterranean and Cloud Forest regions to tropical Singapore. The Copper Box for Childline with Ian Ritchie Architects

A team of architects including myself at Ian Ritchie Architects were invited by childline and BT to redesign the iconic British red telephone box. IRAL’s entry raised £4,800 for the charity, you can read more about the project here.

SPAB Philip Webb Award 2012

Check out my winning  entry to this years Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings Philip Webb Award Second prize winner Jonathan Shaw, of The University of Sheffield, impressed with an ambitious scheme for the former Crown Court building at the centre of Sheffield, abandoned since 1997.  His proposals included the demolition of the third of the building he deemed ‘beyond repair’ and part remodelling of the remaining structure with the insertion of new elements. Jonathan’s scheme would enable the building to serve the community again. He proposed that part of the building should be used for civic functions and should hold the…
